No surf in Kenya - Been cruising the Kenyan coast for the past 3 months and can tell you that there is absolutely no surf there. Well if you like 1-2ft dribblers then its all for you. Even went down when the charts were showing 3mt plus swell and offshore winds and found nothing.....cruised outer reefs , sandbars , points and nothing bigger than 2 ft. The only things bigger than 2 ft are the Tiger sharks and Zambezi's which lurk around.Dont waste your time here...try other wave rich destinations

surf in kenya in september / october - Hi Everyone

how's it going?

I'm getting hitched in september (woohoo) and we're looking at honeymoon spots, with Kenya right up on the list, apart from a lack of surf? (more important to me than my missus, funnily enough)

have you got any thoughts on it, or any advice you can give?

cheers

cris

Be Good - Hey Boy,
You got yourself a few questions to think about.
Mombasa is not far for me. I travel regularly although am not from there.
This means be extra nice to them who are from there. I know there are a few who dislike european surfers.
If you are good though, they should not hasstle you and may even watch to learn yes?
If you travel with friends maybe find your own quite wave, but if not, then don't, too many things to worry about alone.
If you are good, no problems, if not, just be carefull and extra nice.
But do not panic, I'm sure you will have fun.
Have a nice time.

Advice - Hi Tomy. There is amazing surf here in kenya, I have had numerous days of double over head barrels similar to Indonesia and Fiji but uncrowded. It could be quite large so I hope you have bought a step-up board for the bigger days. Maybe a 6'5 or 6'8. I even have a 7'0 for some days, it gets a lot of use some years. There are so many good waves out here, most coastal towns I have visited have some good beach and reef set-ups, the best ones I will not divulge.

surf at lamu kenya - If going to Lamu island in the wet season id take a board if ones available, there is a nice left point{sand over rock/reef} off Manda island just accross the channel from Shella beach Lamu.
if you go to the ruins on Manda island walk to the beach just passed the ruins and there is a left and right reef break out the front.
also Shella beach at the entrance to the channel.
Plenty of history and culture in Lamu, worth a visit.
I flew over the coast south of Mombassa and saw some good setups close to shore with vehicle access, one out the front of a quarry.
good luck.
