uhhm,. . . .Destroyer! - Hello my friends i'm Pio from Puerto Rico.I have been bodyboarding for almost 20 years and living in RD for more than two years. . .for sure this is one of the best tube riding waves i have ever got in my live!. . I remember the first time i got there with nobody just by myself and a few guys in Encuentro just looking like . . .this guy is crazy!?. . A solid 5 to 6 feet set came a took me inside! then i realized why this place was empty. The set move so fast and it can really hurt you.the reef is to dry.But anyway, there are more barrels than beat downs( if you are lucky!)and you can get lots of mini chopes styling waves!! Its so different when you see it from the shore. . .just get out and blow your mind!!

!!!! - This wave is better than the encuentro break it's got barrels and breaks on a sand bar so that when you beaf it it's not going to fuck you over(although the reef starts a little farther out and some times it breaks too far out and gets real shallow) Just don't go to far to the right(looking from the line up, left if you're looking from the beach) because thats where the reef starts. But yeah this waves so great for the goofy footers out there, I remember the first time I surfed it, I got barreled on EVERY wave I mean after surfing that spot barrels are no longer a "special" thing where when you catch one you're all stoked about it for a while. Just check it out and whatch out...specially at low-tide but then who's dumb enough to surf the destroyer at low tide any ways...

Brazilians? - I grew up there and I remember the Brazilians but they werent the first ones to surf the spot or the ones who named it. That honor goes to me and a few of my friends. El Quipero, El Abuelo(RIP), Cacale, Arlo, a few people Who's name's escape me right now, and myself. And it got it's name from Tony ripping the fin off of his board when he went to far left.

don't go too far left - This is one of the best waves I have ever riden when it breaks the right way, the only problem is if you go to far to the left you can get caught in the shallows and if that happens you've got problems, because the only way out is through about 100'of sea urchins in about 3" to 6" of water.

Empty?? - After the amateur world contest in Puerto Rico (1988) the brazilian team came to the north shore of the D. R. because they had heard about Sosua, sombody took them to Encuentro, the swell was more than average and coming from the NW.
The brazilians went nuts and broke over 20 boards during their first sesion. They named the break, it's shallow, it has very sharp coral tons of black urchins, it jacks up on the take off and it's extremely holow. To make maters worst, there are tons of turist who rent boards, and dont know what to do, other than get in your way...
