El Zonte: a right hand point break just off the pan-american highway - Just spent a week at El Zonte surfing pretty much everday for a week. Place is great for surf pretty much all day long. Meals are relatively cheap and filling, but there is a lack of place to stay with shared kitchen. there is a great place on the seafront, literally infront of the access road to El Zonte. Views are onto the point and left hander tucked West. I found useful information on intrepidsurfer.com about El Zonte: hostels, restaurants, transport/access, surf spot etc.

El Zonte has changed ... - I have been surfing for a while this spot and it has changed a lot in the last few years ... hotels, bars and houses. But still a nice place to be and surf ... check canegue's bar in facebook a new bar in the front of the point break.

some Rocks - hey buddies, there are some big rocks in the lineup, you touch them while sitting on your board... just take the bigger waves on low tide, otherwise you'll probably hit the rocks inside... ;-) quite a good wave when it's a bit bigger. sometimes crowded with bodyboarders (they stand on there feet, quite good), morning always glassy! good restaurant just at the point, awesome pancakes, eggs, orange juice and milkshakes... :-D

el zonte - thanks for a great time, only problem was having to travel through the u.s.a to get there, people where great and alex is not a bad surfer (for a novice,) can't do big waves though, teco was always a pleasure to watch as he had the place wired, who cares who's place is whatever , chill out, enjoy the view and watch the birds fly by...............

Surfed El Zonte Last Week - I was in El Salvador for a week and decided to surf some of the well known spots. I hit El Zonte on a pretty epic day. the waves where pumping in sets of about double overhead (HH). The paddle is pretty long and requires knowledge of the break. The best and easiest way to paddle out is right in the center of the cove. while it is longer, it is by far the easiest way out. The sea floor drops deep early, so while on the beach, wait for a wave to push the ocean up and jump on your board and start paddling. you will have to push through once wave and then a rip current will pull you out. once you feel the rip pulling you, paddle towards the point on the outside.

I was very impressed by the locals. most where bodyboarding, as i assume they could not afford a surfboard. these guys where riding bodyboards like surfboards. not riding dropknee, but actually standing and doing cutbacks and airs...it was amazing. these kids could easily be pro if only they where given the opportunity. it shows how these people persevere. i could not beleive it.

The break itself is really good. the wave has excellent shape and has a few hollow spots towards the end. The locals people love to what their surfers and cheer them on. the vibe was great and they locals in the water even have a whistling system to warn of on coming sets. everyone was courteous and not one person dropped-in on anyone. it was truely one the best surfing experiences of my life.

Everyone got along. - I have visted El Z. I met Alex, Teco and many others. I booked thru Walter as I have never been before and wanted to hang with a local and provide wheels to get around. I ate at Alex's most nights. Partied with those guys a little and found them all friendly and if shown respect, gave respect. There are options in that area for just about anyone. Everyone goes to Alex's place at night around dinner and that includes Teco and his crew. Hey Alex, I was the guy that bought the wine by the bottle when we ate dinner there. Anyhow, Alex and Teco are good guys and all those guys are friendly to each other. Discount the negative posts.

please dont fight - Sounds like there is a little unrest in the El Zonte area I really dont know what those guys are on about.. the waves are really not that great there (even on those days when all the locals are out there all cheering & hooting) A so called point break that can not even handle 6 feet (it closes out after that) even on a decent beach break you can get a 50m plus ride, it is a good place for beginners & you dont need a guide to get to all the other surf spots as busses are so easy if you do not have a rent a car..
