Look out for the blue claw crabs and rich people. Try to hang near the pussywillows, it's where the swell likes to break
Atmosphere
The water is kind of murkey, but it's clean. Most people go to closer access breaks when the swell gets big, but georgica pond is bigger and more hollow then anywhere on Long Island
General
Snapping turtles hurt when they bhite you, stay away from the mud. It's a great place to take dates at night. Beach fires are allowed and it's very romantic. I take my bf's here all the time

Fickle - When it breaks it can be very good but it's very fickle. I've checked it out a dozen times on numerous swells and only caught it good once, and just decent another time.
On an over head swell it closes out and the paddle to get to the outer bars which will stay partially open is about as tough as Ocean Beach (San Fran) on a big day b/c the jetties collect a bunch of sand on the inner bars and just dump sets on your head.
I have only been surfing it for 2 yrs... i heard years ago it was the place to go. Heard stories about 10 ft days with guys scared to take off b/c it can be damn heavy and breaks in very shallow water. (feel like i heard same stories about demos). But like all non-reef breaks things change when big storms come through the area... I still check it out from time to time but keep my hopes in check.
All the ponds in the hamptons get opened a couple times a yr and if you search around you'll find one that has formed a well-groomed sand bar.
