Baler spring 2011 - Made it to Baler in mid march hoping for some classic tubes, but wind was onshore, strong and cold for three days straight. Some swell but a guy there said the weather had been like that for 3 weeks. Muddy water nothing like the pic posted here, silty brown sand beach..., a bit lacking in tropical luster and balmy water compared to the southern philos...
Cool little town and not so bad by bus from Manila.
(about 7-8 hours aircon bus) Watch out for the food at the main beachfront cafe...nice people but got food sick there.
Non surfing locals very cool and laid back.
Karaoke Girl bars along the beachfront to the right facing the sea past the nightclub for when surf is down.
This is still surf season. I heard its dead flat in summer. Like any surfing in the Philos gotta time it right. This time I was unlucky...

Baler surfing. - Went in the off season and scored a few fun little days. { Bus is a pain in the ass and about 7 SLOW!! hours from Manila and approx $8 USD }
Now heading back and should be better, it is a mellow place, nice and relaxing, the waves are pretty average apart from Cemento reef which is a cracking wave, on the whole a nice place, stunning scenery and a friendly small town. Great to replace 8c water in our Winter to boardies there! Small hotel at the break has decent rooms and good food. { Haggle for room rates especially if staying a while.} 7/10 The whole place overall but the night life is crap if you are into that.
If you wanna just surf and then chill out then this could be the place........
{PS they have some new cheap Greg Webber boards for sale there, Greg visited and left boards bur seems like they cannot sell them, maybe too much for the locals? Buy a new board and leave your old one for the local kids maybe?
