Thalpe is around 15 minutes by Tuk south of Galle (5 mins from Unawatuna). The good break is just south of the Coral Beach Guesthouse (out the front of a small wooden hut with surf lessons painted on its sign). A well known local surf spot but overlooked by most travels as you cant see the break properly from the road. 100 rupees by Tuk from Unawatuna (one way). - Rocks
Careful of the rocks at low tide - no urchins here though which is a bonus... be patient, what looks like mush can turn into some nice swell very quickly
Atmosphere
Chilled out location - frequented by locals, most who are very laid back and happy to show you the right spots. Awesome sunsets - a good spot for duskys. A good spot for getting over reef fear as it is fairly deep in high tide.

Spot added before a.k.a "The Peaks" - Hello there!
In fact i contributed "The Peaks" spot 6 months before "Thalpe" was added.
same spot = same description
Anyway, been there for 1 week at Coral Beach Guesthouse before Xmas 2003.
Very Niiice Viiiibes!
Every morning was having a few rides on these little waves, all by my own!
I put some photos on "The Peaks" page.
Got back in Paris December 24th, spending the Eve in my hotel room.
1 year later, Tsnumai striked! Total shock!
Nature gives, Nature takes.
I prayed for all these lost souls, remembering every smile i met...
Wish to get back there to support the local economy.
Bohama istouti. Ayubowan.
