Quite heavy shorebreak, also psycho reef break on high tide. The reef area is best when big swell, high tide and North wind. Shorey can be any wind.
Don't use your best surf board it will get broken, but you will get sick barrels before that.
Atmosphere
Fun to charge and hurt yourself if that's what you're into. There is a fun shorey just next to it if you like eating sand.
This beach is a little cove with rocks either side of the beach break. On high tide surf the right hander off the right to the right and any other time surf the huge shore breakers.

losers - tell everyone about it suckerrs. nothin better than a crowded small takeoff zone u knob gobblers. funny how i'm the only one out when it's big. and thanks for asking if u could put my photo on. i want royalties. stick to surfin the net n fuck of my reef. props to josh morgan but the rest can get sucked off thru the glory hole. yours heavy handedly carter.

i love koonya it hoots - i remember i had an epic sesh at koonya once in the late 80s, back when johnny menstrual was handing out pieces of plastic to use as umbrellas. darryl had respect for the game but now he's in sydney. anyway it was late arvo around 7pm and i was only one out, 4-6ft and barrellin its hollow titties off!! anyway i was in the water wen this rad old dude named rabbit, ron a motorbike rode down onto the sand. he had an old school ghetto blaster attached to his rear fender and he was pumpin "the safety dance- men without hats" on loop. what a grasshopper! probably one of the more memorable sessions ive had on the pen, apart from when i saw a guy ski down the portsea dunes on the sabbath thinkin it was vancouver, but hey thats a diferent story altogether.?
