Drive from Bude to Barstable on the A39 and about 1/2 way find clovelly cross and take the turn to Clovelly. You will have to park in the expensive car park and then have a long walk down the hill. You should see the Left breaking right in front of the rocks, not for the faint hearted, often a good 2 ft smaller than Bucks Mills, this shows just how big it has to be for it to work. Hardly ever works and often is screwed up by winds making a really cold nasty experience. At some states of tide a good right albeit a little short breaks off some rocks. This maxes out quickly but offers small barrels. Needs a munting swell to make anything happen.

Additional Information
This Left used to be one of the best kept secrets in North Devon. Very hard to catch when its on and if there's been an obvious swell coming in dont be suprised to get some grief from the locals. If u can get any waves from them as the standard can be very high. When it gets big, which ive never seen, you have to get in from the side but that really is a once in a decade chance.

Atmosphere
Last didch attempt if everything else is totally out of control. It breaks so rarely youre going to have to be commited and lucky to get it on. So good luck if you do.

General
A lovely little village. With a pretty decent wave but because of the inconsistency you cant really base your surfing around it.

surf check nov 22nd 09 - Big Sunday - a huge 4-5m Hs measured on the bideford bay buoy. So was there surf in Clovelly? a big, fat, N.O. I walked all the way round three headlands to the west as far as the wooded valley, and there was nothing... aparently the tide needed to be much higher, it only works on high tide springs according to a couple of other dissapointed surfers. So I went back to bucks, and wished I had a boat! This spot might work on much bigger swells, but I doubt that it would work every year, as the conditions (swell, tide) need to be so specific. A shame, but I did learn something :-) keep searching!
