Ayampe is a small and very nice town like 30 min north from Montañita, right on the main road. There is a camping place. Waves break usally very quickly, but mornings are much better. Nice to get out of the crowd in Montañita, surf alone and chill out in a town where nothing to do but talk with the locals

- Ayampe is a quiet village with a great vibe. Ideal for detox from the madness of Montanita. It's a huge beach with few people, very quiet and nice. Be careful where you leave things because the tide difference is very large and may be a surprise. The beach is very sensitive to swell, the best time for surfing is when the tide is rising.
To stay I recommend La Iguana, is very welcoming to stay, the owner Galvan is a very good person.

AYAMPE! - Ayampe is a great little town. The vibe is really chill and it's an awesome place to surf and just relax. There seem to be waves every day and hardly anyone in the water. It's quite the contrast from what you'll find down the road in Montanita... Just spend a couple of days in Ayampe and you'll be on a first name basis with almost everyone in the town. From the guys in the water, to the local and laid back business owners.
I'd recommend staying at Surf La Buena Vida. It's a new place with clean, cool rooms. The staff is great and makes you feel like you're at home. Keith, the owner, will show you all the spots to surf, even surf them with you. Meanwhile Marilyn, his wife and co-owner is probably one of the most accommodating and hospitable people I have come across in my travels. If you can spare the few extra bucks to stay there, you'll find that it's well worth it.
ps. If you wear Volcom clothing, you'll get extra special attention at Surf La Buena Vida...
