The bigger the better. An epic wave at double overhead. Winds are typically side-shore, good for windsurfers.
Atmosphere
Super isolated Malagasy village. Incredible coastal desert with spiny forest. Epic trip. Stay two weeks to guarantee waves.
General
I've travelled a lot. This place is the most memorable. The waves are good but the experience is better.

Good surf but very windy - Lavanono does have some good waves, no doubt. I stayed there for two weeks in May 2004 and we got three swells in that period. One swell got to a good size, double overhead out the back of the point. I was with my girlfriend - no other surfers around for the whole two weeks so the day it got big was a bit wasted. I had two, one hour surfs - its amazing what thoughts start running through your head when your way out on the point waiting for a set all alone. So yeah, I shit myself a bit, not really due to the waves, it was the though of entering the food chain that kept my senses on full alert. All part of the fun I suppose. Discovered another nice left reef about 20 min walk past the fishing village. Think its a small wave spot cause on this day the point was almost flat.Have fun, go and explore - you´ll definately get uncrowded and decent waves in Lavanono. Oh yeah - if youre into using wind to get your speed - this is the place for you.
