The reef break to the south is for more experienced surfers and deserves a spot-sheet to itself!watch out for the whiteshorts (locals)!
on its day there is not a drop of water out of place and all you have to do is take off and wait, you'll get covered and then let out 100m down without twitching a muscle.
Atmosphere
There is a hard localism.
Foreigners are not allowed by the "white shorts". the backdrop is volcanic and the bay is incredibly pretty. it works rarely but when its on - no wave in the world is close.

Local surfers violence - I read the comments and had a look for the surf shop where the locals that beat up people work. It is supposed to be next to the Tamarin Bay hotel. I see there is a surf school but it looks quite far away from the hotel. I don't want to name and shame a business on facebook, tripadvisor and other websites so please let us know which shop it is. Many South Africans that want to surf Mauritius are taking their money and going to other places like Bali because of the violence.

sarrold - Am currently in Mauritius. Last Wed Tamarin was firing. Solid 6ft + sets. Ive just uploaded a pic.
As we've all read, its an epic world class left with multiple barrel sections and fast down the line speed turns.
In 3.5hrs of being out there I caught all of 4 waves. Within 3mins of being in the lineup I was warned to sit wide and down the line - or there would be trouble. I was repeatedly warned on at least half a dozen occasions. It wasn't just one guy, or two or even three - its a tight knit band of localism supported by all.
I am a respectful global surfer. I know I am a visitor. I don't paddle up the inside, drop in or collapse waves but all the rules of etiqutte don't mean shit here and these guys are a rule unto themselves. Never in my life have I experienced such inbred twisted localism. It goes against the whole reason of why we surf.
The funny thing is - these guys have a world class wave on their doorstep and usually this leads to high progression of surfing skill but because they close themselves off from the outside world their surfing skills are sadly lacking. No one I saw was truly ripping. Equipment was outdated and because no one is there to push, their surfing skills are sadly lacking in comparission to anywhere else with a world class wave in the backyard.
Its mainly the French & South African "locals" you have to watch out for. I'm 6'4 and 100kgs myself so I'm not small. Each one of the protagonists was all of 5'8 and weedy. I've heard that if you surf some of the other lesser populated breaks on Mauritius and only encounter 1 or 2 of them out then they are not as brave as when they have 20 behind them.
Its a sad state of affairs. Never ever have I been threatened in the surf like that - and told not to sit down the line and not compete. Assholes.

TOURIST SURFERS BE AWARE OF THE PYGMY - The "PYGMY" Is a small Shaved Bald Hair guy that tells Tourist Surfers their not ALLOWED to surf at "One Eyes" and at Tamarin Bay, Pygmy makes and owns a "Seacart" Company in Mauritius. This little minded Pygmy is no threat, if he tells you that your not allowed to Surf just Laugh at him. These "WHITE-SKIRT Pillions just have to realise they don't OWN THE OCEAN and the surf breaks that surround Mauritius. If you want to surf in Mauritius go ahead and surf, don't take any Shit from Pygmy, Bruno, and the Pilot From Air-Mauritius Ettienne, if you are threatened by these 3 Pillions, Contact the Police directly, Also contact the CEO of Air-Mauritius and tell them about this Ettienne Pilot the violence he is showing for tourist surfers.
Further more you can Contact The Minister Of "TOURISM" Michael Sik Yuen. These 3 White Skirts must be put on NOTICE, and all this shit must STOP harassing Tourist Surfers across Mauritius. So good advice for Tourist Surfers, don't be afraid to surf. If you have any problems with "WHITE SKIRTS' TELEPHONE These Numbers.
BLACK RIVER COAST GUARD POLICE 4836922. TOURIST POLICE 4539915.
