eavy rips move along the point and can make it treacherous. But sit on it and be patient because they change with the tides. Either side of low tide seems to be the best condition.
This place can deliver rides of more than 1km. On a poor day we surfed 5 waves from the top of the point to the beach and then walked back and did it again...
Atmosphere
Ponto is a Portuguese ex-colony. It has the flavours of meditteranean foods with plenty of fresh fish, fruits and vegetables. Accomodation ranges from tented camps under the trees to luxury houses. Search the NET for Ponto accomodation and get something with air-conditioning!
The wave is awesome. In the right conditions this waves could rival length of ride at J Bay, and possibly form if it got perfect, but its in no way a consistent perfect setup. Dont expect too much. Chase a swell from the North Coast of South Africa (www.wavescape.co.za) and make it a well timed visit.
If you get bored then there is excellent diving and fishing and a few good bars to get your leg over.

Good Spot but fickle - Ponto is a great spot - but you got to be there on the right day. it has to be big and there has to be no wind or you get heavy sidewash. Seen a few guys using jetski's to lift them back to the point when the sidewash kicks in.

fotos - Those 2 photos look more like the beach break a few miles south of "golden point" in front of where the tourists hang out.

Not4 Stars - Uh this wave is fickle , frequently blown out and plagued by stupid South African arseholes trying out their JetSkis . The Dive boats also launch from the cove every 30min . Not quite the peace and serenity one is looking for .The wave is average so you dont have to be bummed about it . If it was a JBay it would be very sad . The previous mailer is delusional or narco-positive . or both . Head up to Malongone 7km North for a bit of a quiter situation.
