Ouakam is a fishing vilage, about 6 km from the airport and 11 from Dakar the capital. It's a wave in front of the fishing village and a mosque. People are very friendly and happy given that the average income is about $1USD per day. It's really mystical wave.

Additional Information
You will lucky if you catch a wave because you need a big swell to get waves. Many people go to Senegal and only see the waves in their dreams because it's as all surfers say: "You should have be here yesterday"

Atmosphere
The atmosphere is very mistical because as you can see on the picture you are inside a cliff around a small typical West African fishing village. So it's completely different than most other waves. You also have the mosque right in front of you, one of the biggest in the country and with this line up when the swell turns the cliff which is just friont of you, it's just magic.

General
It's just the best spot in West Africa, very fast and long very, not very deep with a little island of rocks and urchins just front of your take off, that's why I saw very good surfers come on holiday and not stay much in the peak because the rocks remind you all the time that they are at home !!!

why? - Well..I thought I'd check the comments to read some nice info on which swells work best here, where's good to stay etc but instead all there is is pure racial divides and hatred written by various so called surfers. I just don't understand surf attitude anymore? I just watched a video about senegal and thought it seemed like a different and interesting place to catch some fun waves as well as have a cultural african experience..you guys obviously missed the point to why we surf! I've surfed my whole life and am now rollin on 36 but recently surfing has become uncool and dominated by guys with bad attitudes like you lot...why?? I now get dropped in on every session and even at my local local I've surfed my whole life..I ask the young guys why and they say "that's the way we roll!"...Poor senegalese surfers having to put up with the same shit I do from guys who think they're more important than the locals...you should all be ashamed...the more I surf now the more I think about giving up because the people involved in the sport are the worst type with the most selfish attitude and I paddle out to be surrounded by these assholes...why?? I just hope the people in Senegal can forgive you lot and continue to smile and share their waves with the open hearted traveller...please forgive these idiots who wrote before me. Surfing is about fun, sharing and being stoked for others around you....please please can we share the love a little more!!
