Additional Information
Get in early in the morning when there is no wind or the morning breeze is blowing down the mountain. The beach has a very long strip so if there is a crowd on the peak in front of the parking lot just go to the next one. It gets very hollow on every low tide - super fun but fast and very powerful. It comes out of very deep wter and jacks up quickly. It is absolute perfection in a 4-6ft ground swell with low tide, no wind or a slight early morning offshore - Hard paddle though, no channels.

Atmosphere
This is a great alternative from 2-6 feet if Cave Rock and Ansteys are crowded. It use to have the heaviest localism, probably, in South Africa, but things have changed here and people don't hang at the beaches anymore.

This one of the best waves durban has to offer. They tried to film here for the first search film but the locals got pissed.

Garvies is for everyone! - I grew up on Bluff and was a garvies local for many years! Trust me the bad assed attitude is an urban legend. The original hard assed locals have left the country and were never that scarey ! Trust me ! So hope you all have a great surf, watch out for chippies rock and the reef. Great break and not crowded. In fact Ansteys is far more clicky than Garveys.
