The spot is less preferred by local durban surfers who tend to head for the central durban spots (north beach, Dairy Beach etc.) when the conditions are good. Characteristics of the break change constantly with the shifting sandbanks however a consistant peak can usually be found somewhere along the beach.
The beach here is more exposed to swell than any of the other central beaches meaning fair consistance throughuot the winter months, however it's also more exposed to wind and gets blown out easily. Early morning winter land breases can create epic conditions with no crowds. The spot has a very hairy shorebreak (known by most bodyboarders) in the summer months when the NE windswell can get up to 6'.

Good on itd day - I used to surf here when I was young to avoid the town crowds and let me tell you, this place cooks on its day.It has a paralell channel that runs along the shore. This can produce an epic shorebreak that on its day can produce perfect spitting peaks. When the banks are just right the outside can get get good throwing out some round barrels but the paddle out can be sketchy on big days.Gets blown out easily but is always worth a look in the early morning. Also, because its close to the rivermouth it tends to be a bit sharky so keep your eyes peeled.

Very Good on its Day - Yes DP I recall in the days of my youth getting stand up barrels here but I'm talking the eighties.
