Travelling to Durban from England this August - Hi guys.Im travelling to Durban from England this August, and i wondered if anybody could answer some of my questions. Any reply will be much appreciated. What will the waves be like in august? What will the water temperature be? Are boardies warm enough or would u suggest a shorty wetsuit? Is there much of a problem with sharks and localism around the Umhlanga Rocks area? Please reply by emailThanks alotHenry

Rox Ruel - Rox has produced some of the best surfers in South Africa. The likes of Carl Roux,Greg Eisely, Vince King, Rich Edy,Dave, Bobby and Patrick Renaud just to name a few. Most of them have kicked ass in their time and are still ripping the surf scene.Aloha Surf shop is the best there is just ask for Skin Head, Shazzie or Mo they have it all!! Skin is the Godfather of Umhlanga surf scene. Charlies pub is the place to go if you want good food, beer and to hang out with the best surfers in Natal. The chicks are hot and friendly so don't be too shy! If you want a tatoo visit Eletric Eye next to Charlies, you can take your ice cold beer in with you as you pluck up the courage to get a chopp. The waves at Rox are powerfull and very hollow epic in the months from April - July when you get the winter swells and offshore winds. Summer time is also good but can be fickle due to the easterly winds. watch out for the blue bottels. The locals are friendly and will offer advice if needed. All you need is the right attitude and don't be hassel the locals in the surf. Follow those rules and you will have a great holiday at Rox.

- I lived in the ROX for 26 years. Great wave in the winter months when the swell is generally bigger and cleaner. Summer can get crowded and you have the bluebottles to contend with due to the prominent north easterly winds. Best advice is to get up early before the wind picks up. Thats if you can after all those beers.
