- Spot= Sanya, Hainan Island, China photos 1-3Regarding the photos submitted re Sanya, they are a Hoax. I just recently spent 2 months in Sanya, june to early august 2006. I surfed extensively all over the island. The only real surf spot for surfing in Sanya is Da Dong Hai. This is a relatively inconsistent beach break with waves in the 1-4 foot range. They are fast and often close out in the low tide. This is a beach break with no point breaks, it has some reef at each corner of the beach. It is a well developed commercial area with hotels and a Navy base. The surfing areas are seperated by 3 distinct roped off swimming areas that are patrolled by Lifeguards (who don't really know what there doing). The photos that are posted are from the Golf course up at Shemi Wan (Bay) near Xinglong. They were taken during the surfing contest held there last November 2005. I was there and I distinctly remember those surfers surfing those waves. There was only roughly 40 people there during the contest. So it was easy to remember. I'll dig out some pics for you concerning Sanya, Da Dong Hai (Beach) which shows the beach. It's the main tourist beach which all the tourists go to surf and be seen at. Regards GRAHAM
