fun as - I rode this place a few times last winter (US) in Feb. and it gets ultra crowded but it is sick. When its big the crowds thin out or are forced in by clean ups. But there are two distinct channels on each side of the main peak with smaller rides on each side also. Careful though, when it gets big its pretty gnarly. Know your limits.

- Surfed here in November as a last resort. One word... SHITE! 1 I thought i had just turned up in Tokyo...2 I ended up with a ear infection from the water which resulted in me being in a fucked up state for a week. In which time i had to watch my mates charging 6ft Lakey Pipe. Really not worth it..even as a last resort

Forget it - Was there in March, didn't feel like I was in Bali, the place is a dump! It seriously is no exaggeration of the amount of Japanese surfers here (no disrespect intended). I turned around and went to N.D. for a chilled out session and swim in nice water.

Crowds - How bad are the crowds here in late dec - late november??

By anonymous , 27-02-2005

Full of dickheads - Surfed here 2 times in feb and all i found was 70 japs, and 15 aussie idiots who thought this was there break.
Being an Aussie myself i was pretty ashamed to surf this place as i saw 3 aussies abuse a local ripper because he made the barrel and they didn't get the end section.

But karma does come around as we drove past the 3 walking back to kuta minus boards and a car.

ruined - Just got back from Bali, pulled up to this spot at about 11am on a day with about head high/slightly overhead conditions and counted exaclty 121 japanese spread out across this lineup (10 ppl would be enough for this break). Now, grantid, most of them are total posers, but what bullshit, it was packed tighter than a McDonalds in Tokyo. God forbid they travel in groups of 2-3 like the rest of the world does, no....I saw a mini-bus pull up and 10 japanese get out! I'd say this is the single biggest frustrating point while we were there.
