Irregular sandbars off-shore make for rips on "big" days. What appears to be a powerful wave can frequently have little push except in the hook.
Atmosphere
Non Nuoc just below the Marble Mountains towars Hoi An is better.

DaNang tubes - I was there in November 2003. DaNang towards the north end has some serious barrels. I was sure lucky to see it probably as classic as it ever gets. I will post up some pictures ASAP!

Da Nang - Had a surf here this morning (only person on the beach!). 2.5 - 3.0 meter swell glassy. Short range though made it lumpy. Just passing through Danang at the mo but I get the impression for this place to work you'd need all the planets lined up. My experience was that there was plenty of swell but the the waves were fat until they hit the beach and then pitched . . . Made it hard work for me. Anyway definetly worth checking out if you're in this part of the world.
