Dudley is for everyone - I grew up surfing and learning everything about life in Newcastle and spent many great times surfing at Dudley. Like all beaches it has its great days and not so great days, but what it has is an unspoilt, pristine wilderness feel in one of Australia's major cities. For the past 10 years I have lived all over the world, built a successful business and now want to bring my young family back to Newcastle as it's the greatest place on earth to live. What disappoints me are the comments on here claiming ownership of Dudley. Localism is the ugly side of surfing usually displayed by individuals who struggle to contribute to society in any other way. The beach is for everyone. Show respect and you will receive it back. Not everyone can spend all day everyday down at Dudley or Leggy. Some of us have to work hard to pay taxes so beautiful areas like them can remain National Conservation Areas. So next time you "locals" feel it's your right to elbow the part time surfer just for enjoying himself, just remember he may well have enough power and influence to one day turn your beloved Dudley into a beautiful seaside developemnt or Newcastles newest suburb specifically designed for the Sydney market. Wake up and use your heads locals, otherwise you'll end up on the outer. For everyone else, if you havent been there, dont listen to the local threats just go and enjoy one the last remaining paradises in urban Australia.
