Atmosphere
This spot is the D-Bah of the Sunshine Coast. When everywhere else is flat there should be waves up here.
General
This spot is so serene. There aren't usually too many people on the beach (and keep in mind it is a nudist beach), and the beach itself is long and golden. There are two points on eac side (like a true bay) but the best waves are on the inside pockets. Maybe a good idea to take a feed with ya in an esky cos if it's a nice day you will want to stay a while!

Definitely worth a try - After several years of surfing around the Sunshine Coast, I'd never surfed here before, the main reasons being the cumbersome walk to get there, and to a greater extent the fact its a nudist beach made me hesitant. I made the decision to try it just before the new year, based mainly on the strong SE winds blowing out the open beaches. Given that I was staying at Sunshine Beach, I walked from that end, which took me about 20 minutes to get there (the first steps up from the Beach are killer on the legs!), I recommend taking at least 1 good sized bottle of water with you for the walking alone, as there are no showers or taps at A-bay.
Upon arrival, I see 2-3ft waves that while not perfect, were actually holding, and only 3 groms in the water. The bay itself provides a good deal of protection from southerly winds, which were ideal given the conditions at the time. Turns out the nudists there aren't particularly sociable contrary to my original perception; they stare at you for a bit, but they keep to themselves, which is fine by me. I stayed and surfed for about 3 hours - a very enjoyable session! It doesn't have the dumpiness of Sunshine, and the waves are fast with a bit of punch to them. Probably shouldn't attempt if you're inexperienced It's definitely a spot to visit at least once if you're up at Noosa, and a good alternative if other places aren't firing, or you want to avoid the crowds.

craigo - A/Bay is a beautiful hidden surf spot.
You have to walk through national park to get there.
Catches all swell & has crystal clear water.
Dolphins, turtles (& sharks) visit regularly.
Cookies also has a small cove that gets a punchy peak great for bodyboarders.

- hey im a local from the sunny coast. if u have the gonads for a harder wave head to a bay. but don't go onto the beach go to hells gates. the big cliffs next to a bay.some days theres a massive right hander but theres these rocks there that faze even the toughtist blokes.have fun
