Check the conditions before leaving home on the Patterson River Motor Boat Club website, because surf at Patterson River and Carrum Beach is highly inconsistent on a yearly basis.
Atmosphere
Carrum Beach and Patterson River produce 3-4ft sloppy waves during strong westerly winds, which mostly occur during Spring.
The Patterson River Motor Boat Club has a web cam, which can be used to see the conditions.
Boaties tend to not go out when it is suitable for surfing, making it ideal, however Patterson River is a busy waterway, so make sure you are aware of your surroundings.
General
Patterson River is only good when strong westerlies come through.

big waver - honestly one of victorias best breaks... my father found this wave back in the 1960s... honestly has a lot of pros down there too...

- if u are looking for a good bay wave head down to mentone i am local down there and trust me for a bay wave it can be great i have surfed out there on a 2m face day and it was crazy
