You need to surf tarawera really hard turns and there some really quick barrels so surf it fast. On a low tide watchn for snapping fins.

Me as a Matata local i reckon on a good 3 -6 foot day its like a reef brake.

matata local - shit yea tarawera goes of on the right swell but being a river mouth the banks around there are a bit shifty and shallow, look after your boards.

I know a guy - I once knew a guy, He wanted to surf Tarawera, I told him about the risks, He didnt beileve me.The next day I met the same guy but he was different, He was deaf in both ears, Blind in both eyes, Skin cancer and a board in two pieces.Take my warning and never go there EVER.
