Great - Amberley Beach is a massive beach that forms part of northern Pegasus Bay. It is stony next to the car parking area but sandy underfoot once in the ocean. You can only really surf here during low-mid tide. If it is full tide, the waves break directly on the stones with a strong undertow. Great on a nice day. Can get pretty big surf when the conditions are right but the usual day would result in 1.5-2.5 foot which can become really clean and ridable.Usually very unpopulated, especially in the early morning. Great views to the cliffs to the north and towards New Brighton and Sumner to the south. You can often see seals and dolphins far out in the water and sometimes they venture in to play as well. A naturally beautiful place with rugged characteristics and more often than not, really good weather and decent waves, just pick the tides right before going there. enjoy.

Interesting - This beach is at the Northern end of Pegasus Bay, and it seems to be quite different from Brighton or Sumner - quite a bit of potential - needs to be checked out. The days I've been there it was messy, but some quite good rips and really murky including seals - so its more like Kaikoura?? Will keep you posted - a good stony beach that will kick up in a storm!!
