Pan dulce is very infested with large tiger sharks. Beware surfing early morning that is their feeding time because they go in the bay the wave peels into and have been known to consistently attack surfers.
Atmosphere
Most beautiful part of costa rica...monkeys in the trees, clear blueish water, and a perfect point break.

Get it good and you won't want to leave.

no sharks!! no localism!! - I surfed Pan Dulce last week and was classic. A few crownded but was very fun. There are no locals, only a few Gringos thinking they're locals. The place is insane, but you must take a boat from pavones, is much more easier, and the trip is great

Watch For Rocks... - There are two big rocks by the take-off point, one is usually visible at low tide, the one next to it is usually submerged. I found out the hard way and smashed my face on it ducking a wave, so beware. I've heard from Osa locals that the spot was discovered by a local guy named Brett, who is such a nice guy the locals called him "Sweet Brett", which eventually became corrupted into "Sweet Bread", or "Pan Dulce". A really great right point break that goes on for a while, easier to make than Backwash or Matapalo, but again, be careful of the rocky reef, especially near the take off point. Locals are usually friendly and the spot is reasonably uncrowded compared to the rest of CR, though on the weekends can draw a lot of people from nearby Puerto Jiminez. As always, show respect and have proper etiquette and you will have fun.

pan dulce/mataplao - pan dulce is a great wave but if you dont like aggro sharks and an even more aggro lineup this isnt the place for you. i had a 12 foot tiger shark circle me 3 times and the vibe was horrendous - watch out for a crazy norte/ lobsterman from montauk who sits outside the peak at matapalo waiting to run down any kook foolish enough to drop in on him with his big gun- my advice is to head north to playa negra-
