This spot is a backwash wave and very wedgey, this wave is mainly a bodyboarders and bodysurfers wave, only 30 feet from shore. One of the most powerful breaks in Mexico, the lips are sick! No one is in the water here usually me and my friends are the only ones out, A local bodysurfed here, following a severe wipeout, he got sucked out to sea, they found his body the next day in east Ixtapa. Don't go out when the surf is 2-3 feet overhead unless you are very confident in your bodyboarding and bodysurfing skills. One time I took off a little too late on a 10 footer and got sucked down head first, I was bleeding really badly from my chin and I almost broke my neck. Sometimes when the surf is monstrous (double overhead) one wave breaks horizontal to another wave creating an awesome jump.
Atmosphere
Heavy atmosphere, no swimmers surfers or bodyboarders, deadly at 8 feet.
General
Awesome spot for expert bodyboarders, thick lips awesome aerial potential, extremely powerful and steep.

Cool - The locals at this spot are cool. I got it at about 3-4ft and surfed it about 10 times. I was never made to feel uncomfotable. Its a fun wave at this size but id love to see it firing al the way through. The locals that i spoke to said its an amazing wave around easter time. Proper heavy.

Escolleras - I visited Ixtapa for my honeymoon during the summer of 03'. I looked at Surfline before flying down and for this region it said 12 to 15 ft. Basically I'm shitting my pants at this point. In front of the hotels has no one out and big big dumpers. Not really organized enough to try and pull in. So I walk north to the jetty. One person made the comment that currents and riptides are difficult to deal with when it is big and they are. All of that south swell energy comes up the beach and at the jetty flows back out to sea. It was difficult for me to stay in the take off spot. The locals obviously are used to this current and really sit inside, even if a large set is on the horizon they don't move. A few commented that the locals were agressive snakes and I really can not agree. I brod out with a couple Mexican spongers and they were cool even giving me set waves. They all fuckin rip on ten+ year old boards. One guy took off deep got spit out and did a backflip on the close out, pulled it. Basically moves that pro spongers do in the No FRriends videos. One other tip, I'm from Cali and before this trip had never surfed Mainland Mex before. It is fuckin hot, not Palm Springs hot but hell hot. BRING FROZEN WATER BOTTLES. After a twenty minute session they will be thawed and you'll need it. I brought a shortjohn but didn't wear it, it is hot in trunks. The oceanwater is not refreshing at all. Imagine jumping in a hottub set at 100 when the air temp is 105.

Las Escolleras is The Best - I'm a Bodysurfer form here, so, I'm local, this is the best spot here in Ixtapa, in May you can get nice waves, 3.5+ metters, long rides, so, you need a good pair of fins, like UDT or Viper v-7, cause this is a solid wave.Get Fun in the water
