The easiest way to get here, even if you've rented a suv, is to take a pancha (fishing boat) from one of the fishing villages north of Zihuatenejo. Great spot! Easiest to come in on boat. drop off in water...hit big sets of 8-10' heavy walled waves...nice face! very fast...good for beginners too if you're ready to commit! There's a clear point, where you can choose lefts and rights...very clean wave!
Atmosphere
When you do see people here...they're surf-ready americans who won't let you near their waves...fairly "tourist" protected. But when there isn't anyone wet, it's a great fun place to practice and rip it up! It gets insane it is normaly bigger than most of the other breaks so if it gets to big you can go elswhere.
General
am going back in march, i must like it. Long or short board. you pick. bring food and drink if your going to stay awhile

surfed it in summer - Best wave in zihuat. Hard to find in car. Fun, scattered peaks from the south broke up any crowd factor. Got blown out by noon (kinda like CA). Local mexicans were ripping pretty impressive. DO NOT EAT THE FOOD AT THE PALAPA - super unsanitary and you'll definitely get sick.

Winter At The Ranch - Does anyone know if the ranch picks up northwest swell? I heard a rumour that the right can be just as good/long on the correct swells and time of year...wintertime I presume?

The Ranch - I surfed it with my son in April 2005 and the crowds were not bad at all...maybe 15. We were there for two weeks and would go between Saladitas and the Ranch. It was overhead everyday. Some days were double overhead. Both are very good breaks. The locals were very friendly. You have to respect them. We became friends with them and shared a lot of waves. I rode a longboard and my son surfs a shortboard. Like anywhere you go, leave your valuables at the hotel. We stayed at The Inn at Manzanillo Bay in Troncones. I will go back.
