Cheapest and easiest way to reach this spot is from Puerto Vallarta, by Bus. The Bus, or El Carro, runs about every 15 min ALL day from the wee hours to about 7pm Local time. It costs about a buck US to travel to the beach near Punta Pita. from there it is a straight forward walk up the beach for about 15 min. Take some purified water and maybe some sandwiches, or snacks. The morning and evenings are great here, provided the swell is S or SW. Very few crowd. Some rather rude Americans did show up occasionaly and claim to be locals...they spoke very poor spanish for locals, my 10 year old nephew from Canada does a better Job!. But all in all they lasted maybe 20 min. Bring your best longboard or Bodyboards, some water, snaks, and leave your attitude downtown.
Atmosphere
Atmosphere here is great. Real OLD Mexico. It is a beautiful walk out to this spot. Dont be confused by Grom's etc telling you Burros is further north - that is a break called "Stones" in front of the Litibu resort. Also a fun break, but can be quite crowded - and usually populated with Arseholes who think they're pro... (see Kooks)
General
Great run! Nice long waves, that can get quite Epic when the swell is there. Fun waves all around (even nooners!) and is a great place for beginners and seasoned alike. Best part is you dont have to spleep in a tent! it is an hour from the furthest spot in PV !

right of passage - Agreed, this area is quite good and consistent. I consider it one of my rights of passage into being a surfer (I've also done this on Oahu, Maui, Costa Rica and several other places in Mex, including the entire length of Baja). Go to PV with your board (in a reflective bag) and take day trips on the public bus toward Punta de Mita. The bus is filled with characters...some drunk and annoying, but it's cheap and gets you there and back. There are spots along the way, but PM and north are most consistent. All spot up to and including PM are jagged corral reef, so bring surf shoes and expect a slight bit of reef burn. On separate days, I surfed an unnamed spot on the way to PM, 2 spots right at the tip and San Pancho. Kinda wanna go back, but don't have anyone to go with me at the moment:(

Good Surf? - I'm going to be in Puerto Vallarta for a company trip and was hoping to surf. Where would be the best bet for some good waves around the end of June?
