Club Viva Vallarta was sold and changed names. Everyone I know calls this spot Burros.
Atmosphere
Locals are nice. Wave is consistent and fun. Good beginner/intermediate spot. Never crowded because the hotel does not cater to surfers, but to families with small children. The access is a little bit of a pain unless you're a guest. I spent a week there in April and we had waves all day every day.
General
If Sayulita is too small and you don't have a boat to go to Punta Mita, check out Burros.

Crowded - The hotel DOES cater to surfers... about a dozen paddled out from the hotel today while I was there, all with huge boards, and few with any skill. 24 people in the water... mostly total beginners.. dangerous.

punta burros - The hotel is now the palladium resort and the surf spot is called Burros

lots of kooks from palladium - have to agree with the comment about the resort catering to surfers... and clogging the lineup with the clueless.
Last year I collided with a pack of beginners trying their best to take off right in front of me as I worked it down the line. They were oblivious... floundering around in the middle of the lineup.
