You don't know what your talking about. - I live in Old San Juan, PR. I am a gringo. I have lived there for 10 years. I surf in La Perla. All the people leaving negative comments on here really hurts me. Now La Perla is a place to buy drugs. I am not going to lie about that. But it is not dangerous as long as your respect the people and know your way around. La Perla can be dangerous but not all the time. As for the surfing.. it's great when its there!

Out of control - I never knew this spot had a name or was surfed or anything, but I am not suprised to see it on Wannasurf now. I was there in the winter of 1998, and this place was GIGANTIC. No one was out and the cruise ships would not leave the harbor because the swell was so big. I took a whole roll of film of it and will dig them up, scan and post the pics later. Puerto Rico is an awesome place to surf. There are so many spots all year to go to in the winter. Some of the locals absolutely rip, but there are some hard feelings there and you need to be smart when traveling around the island. Spanish, a good attitude and a willingness to charge will all help, as well as some street smarts. The girls are HOT, but if you diss one, stand by. by
