local rookie comment - I only whent there once, in December if I'm not mistaken, and the waves were a bit scary (for me). Great loooong right - a bit too much water mass for what I can deal with so I had to wait for the lil ones to come but it was really fun plus the water was still at 19ºC. I dunno about the locals (I sord of am one), I didn't see a soul except for some tourist couples who came to a nice lil bar over the beach. So yeah it's a bit dead in the winter. ;)

Praia Formosa - I've been there! Beautiful place to be!I was there for 3 weeks in August, lucky mee on the last week some rips came on shore! Fantastic right very well shaped nice size... about 1,5| 2 meters. Locals are friendly people, repect them and you´ll have a good time.

Big and heavy, yet... fun!!!! - I've been to Santa Maria a couple of times now, and this time i got the famous waves everybody talked about. They tend to "close" a bit, but they are really fun. The water is so clean that you can see marine life underwater while surfing great rigths!!! It is not a long ride, but the drop is amazing. The rocky botton always keeps you in your toes, but it pays up!
