This recent spot has appeared when the new jetty has been constructed. A new sandbar is fixed here. It works only with a big swell. It's a very dangerous spot: rips are violent because it's the rivermouth of the river "Adour", the take-off is just in front of the jetty...The tube is very large and the waves are hollow but only few surfers have the level to surf it. Sometimes it's only surfable by towin....

La Barre -- Worry About the Water; not the Wave - This is certainly not a pros or Kamikazees only break by any means.
Yes, it can get huge, but the water is very deep and, if you make the takeoff, no worries as the wave is pretty fat compared to the ungodly tubes that can rage in at plage des Cavaliers, just 100 meters to the left of la barre.
Of course, it's one of the only semi-protected spots in the area, so when everything else is blown out, you may have a chance of getting some waves.
Can get very crowded (very small beach @150 or so meter wide), and is the dirtiest place I've ever surfed, yikes -- tankers come cruising in down the canal just a couple hundred meters to your right (ear plugs recommended!)

Surf spot description... - ...is mostly a point of view from the individual that wrote it. A tourist-deadly-frightening 2 meter beachbreak looks like peanuts for banzai pipeline locals.
Many surfers may not know La Furoncle because the new jetty is only a couple of years there. Fact is, that spot is very deep so it works only on big swells. If such swell is rushing in, it kickstarts, and there is no medium wave. It's sizzling, or its off....
