message from a local - The waves in castelo beach are not the best in the lisbon area, but they are much less crowded than in the other areas. The bottom is sandy, so it tends bo change every year, you can never tell if it is going to be better or worse than the year before. The good thing is that you have 14 km of beach to choose the perfect spot for you. I recomend you go with the locals, because they are friendly here, and can tell you better where are the waves.Longboarders can surf allmost all year. Its the best equipment for this spot, but when it becomes bigger (more than 1,5 m) its kind off hard to padlle around, because there are no chanels. Usually, the wave that breaks over your head is the wave that you will surf.Bodyboarding is so much fun (kamikaze type of fun) when the swell reaches 2/3 meters). When it gets flat... just enjoy one of the best beaches in portugal, with it's nice bars, very clean water and white sand, as far as you can see!)enjoy!

Paradise - To those who like thongs... it is probably the beach with bigger thong/space rattings in Portugal! Even if you can't surf because of the flat sea, you can always enjoy the "sight".
