- Localism
this is a wave for storm swell only, and when its on, it gets packed with spongers. it is a quality sponge wave, and this leads to a sense of localism. there have been incidents in the past with car break ins etc, so if you surf don't make it clear from your car that you are in the water. ( lot of people come walking here too.) surf to the right on the wedge.
Atmosphere
the wave is always short, super fast take off, big barels. worth checking, but rarely works in summer
General
Note of caution. I've been body bording 20+ years. I've been injured 5 times. 3 times at Mother Ivey. I'll be back for more next big storm.

dick draggers - calling all longboarders, this is a great spot....especially if you're learning! Friendly lidders. Take care of your fins though as (contrary to rumours) some sack sliders have got spines...

i wouldn't advice learning to longboard here ( a short board would be a better idea) - forms a nice ridable wave then dumps you onto the sand, really short fast steep ride, probably not you best beginner longboarder wave (try a short board). the only reason you would learn or just surf here is its a very short paddle.
