High cliffs overlook 4 miles of beach. At low tide it is broken into the areas Tregantle (firing range), Sharrow,Happy Valley, Tregonhawke (cafe-rocks), Boiler Beach. Rips can be strong at low tide and waves break a long way out on big swells. High tide produces enclosed bays (hence crowded) with a more punchy wave and shelter from strong winds. Occasionally picks up swell from strong East/SE winds where Bantham would not. There are lifeguards at Tregonhawke, Sharrow & Tregantle in summer. The ferry ride from Plymouth usually means it takes a while for the word to get round so you could get the beach to yourself. There is parking at various spots along the cliff -all but one is free. Atmosphere
Pretty mellow, except when crowded at HT. Students piss the locals off coz they drop in.
General

Fun beach break - Not world class - ever, there only a couple of spots in Cornwall that are, and Whitsands is right down the bottom of the pile - sorry WBP. I surf here more than probably the WBP (whoever they are), so i can say they are definite not there always when its good, probably at school then. There is only one wave around here that's any good, not really Whitsands tho. Dont get me wrong, i love the place, but it closes out a LOT and is generally a bit slow. If you really think it's good here, let me know what you think of low-tide Croyde (i lived in Braunton for 2 summers), low tide Droskyn Point and Porthmeor, oh yeah Praa is good also and some other spots than I won't mention.

Sharks - Do U mean REAL sharks? U know, the chomp chomp type, or the 2 legged wanker type?
