From Kingsbridge near Dartmouth head for Plymouth, Bantham is well sign posted. Large car park on beach with toilets. Small shop on way to beach and good pub , best to take everything you need with you. Fine sand, life guards in season. Well worth a visit just for the scenery.
No matter how excited you are about the swell - drive slowly down the lane and especially through the village - people live here, and no wave is worth a kids life.
And do pay at the gate, its not much, but it is someone's livelihood!! The 'bad-boy' surfer stereotype is for muppets and kooks only.

Dangers
- Rips / undertow
Additional Information
Well lets start with the problem of the very strong rip caused by the river Avon.
To avoid this head for the rocks to the left of the beach and use the rip to help
you get out to the line up with almost no effort, and don't worry it won't tow you out
to sea it eases off as you get closer to the line up.

Never had any localism problems surfin here because the
population of Bantham is about 30, and most of them
are elderly. But a lot of people do visit regularly
from neighbouring towns. And wathch out for the incresing numbers
of longboarders (no offence)

to byrna - @ byrna, see i dont like to get pissed off about these things but some people just never learn, theres an unwritten rule amongst surfers that if you find a nice spot, thats not well known keep it between yourself and close friends. I have no problem with people coming and surfing a good spot with afew of their mates, but when a retard like you would go and post that kind of stuff on the internet to to ANYONE it really pisses me off. Im sure people will agree with me on that one, luckily thurlstone is a fickle beast of a reef that seperates the men from the boys, but next time you think itll be working, do us a favour and FUCK OFF
