Go through and past Scarborough on Filey Road and park up at Cayton traffic lights. Walk down the footpath which goes past the holiday caravans and you are at the beach!

There also is a pay carpark at the cayton bay surf shop £2 all day before 4pm, £1 all day after 4pm. For this head through the traffic lights heading away from scarborough and its a left a little further down. Theres showers and changing rooms at the shop so for people who are pretty lazy and like somewhere to shower and get changed before going home its worth the cash.

 Additional Information

Make sure that you park your car along the right road or you'll get a ticket! Try to get as far out to the waves as you can ( its v. hard when they are big ). Great for Bodyboarders (like myself but just as good for all you surfers!) Visit 'The Secret Spot Surf Shop' on Somerset Terrace ( of valley road ) for the best tide times and get some cool stuff!

Cayton Bay Surf Shop has now been taken over by secret spot. So it may be worth a quick look. It has less range but the people there are friendly and if you just wanna grab some wax or get a mars bar before you go in try here. They also have the same tide times (watch out tho! currently the tide tables show whitby times - caytons +24mins from these times and scarboroughs +25)

wow... - Surfing has changed!! Popped out to Cayton for a surf on my lunch break and while getting changed a mini-bus rocked up with 12 college type surfers from inland!!! Rent-a-crowd! All learner standard, however, decided to enter the water in front of the main peak, fantastic. Bodies everywhere, drop ins, it was all going on. Rule no 1, when visiting a break NEVER bring a crowd, rule no 2, NEVER enter the water in front of the main peak always to the side and be aware of other surfers and the never drop in. Local surfers will only stand it for so long this is not Cornwall thank god.

busy busy busy - Anybody here miss those bitter February days? Where the swell is huge and you might be sharing the waves with 1 or 2 people.. I love the fact that instead of sitting at home watching the rain fall down, I can get out and enlighten every sense in my body.. To me thats what surfing is about, the mission, the serenity and the hot cuppa afterwards. Leave the kids to have their turn and stick to the less known places. Just enjoy getting wet in the sun... Those big winter swells are soon to return and so will we, wherever you might travel from...

Few People?! - This article says there are 'few people', but ive been up to cayton a few times at the weekend and its always been packed! the surf shop is often out of equipment (you have to wait for someone to bring something back if you need anything), but they are very friendly. Its a good spot, just a bit crowded.
