Coming to Thurso for August - Hi, I'm going to be in the Thurso area for August 2013 so that I can do a work placement at Dounreay and surf in the area. If there's anybody who'd be happy to show me round a bit and/or rent a room in the area can you please email me on donaghydavid@hotmail.com or phone me on 07946847123. Cheers, David

Damn - Just been reading the posts here and all I can say is damn, traveling surfers need to learn some respect. No, I'm not a local of Thurso and in fact have never surfed there but I plan to in the near future. I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading insulting the locals and being disrespectful.
I've surfed in many places all over the world, in Europe, Hawaii and others and the number one rule is always respect the locals, if you do this, everyone can have a good time. There's way to much of a bad vibe in many surf spots now because of idiots like the ones on this forum.

whats going on up there? - easy. me and one other mate are getting the train up to thurso from london in mid-december, just as soon as our last papers are handed in for this semester. he's from argentina, im english, & we immediately bonded on the first day of our course when he walked into the lecture theatre wearing an uluwatu t-shirt (i'd just got back from lakeys). he wanted to arrange a trip somewhere asap, and i told him i was fed up with being disappointed with trips south west being consistently blown out. i showed him photos of thrso cranking and needless to say he's now super keen. looking at this board now though im having my doubts, seems to be a few bad vibes knocking around. could a genuine local tell me what the score is? i heard it was proper uncrowded, (bearing in mind i was last at lakey peak in peak season!) with a friendly vibe. if you give respect you get respect. im hoping that all i had heard before looking here remains true, as me and my pal could butcher a clean right!
