- lyme bay rarely works. only barely rideable for about 60 days of the year, in the coldest months of winter and when you least expect it. about ten good days a year. no hassle because noone surfs there. except for when 20 surfers turn up 3 days after the swell which is always funny. the redevelopment of the harbour hasnt affected the waves at all. not worth the trip unless you live really close. the tide, wind, swell direction, and most importantly swell size have to be right, and for anyone travelling more than ten minutes, its too easy to get wrong. head to sidmouth for slightly more swell, or try the new reef at boscombe which should be ready in the winter. surfing in lyme bay is a fine art, good luck.
