Shanklin - I used to like surfing the Stinkpot/Hope Beach when I had just started. It gets great shelter and when Compton or Ventnor's like 8ft and blowing a gale or something, go to Shanklin and it's 3-5ft and glassy! But, as everyone knows I'm sure, the crowds are a bit annoying, especially in the summer when the less experienced are out. But if you have just started surfing I recommend this spot to you as it is a mellow, fun, soft wave that is great for beginers.
