Additional Information
This break has been surfed since the late 1960's, it works best when a deep low is moving quickly over the uk. Only works on the larger channel swells and is therefore mainly a winter wave. The wave is clean when there is a sw wind as it is sheltered from the prevailing winds by the harbour. At high tide a weadge wave develops of the harbour wall. Also beware of rocks at high tide and on extreme highs back wash from sea wall.

Atmosphere
A good wave with easy acces, lots of room compared to Ramsgate, is a good alternative to the North Kent breaks when swells and weather systems are comming up the english channel from the atlantic, but can still get very crowded needs minimum 25mph w-sw wind blowing up english channel for at least 12 hours before a suitable swell has developed. Has been less popular in recent years. The beach is protected by the full force of channel winds by the harbour, this gives a clean wave when most other channel spots are blown out.

Folkestone no longer works too much sand now banks - Folkestone is dead! with no dredging in the harbour the bay has silted up and no longer works just a sloppy mess. I'd head to ramsgate wall or Joss these days as the only places with a decent wave. freindly group at the wall too. justin
