Check the reef configuration before going out.
There is a channel on the left side of ths spot, along the pier.
Don't go too far north (syrian camp), they will ask you to live !
After the surf, have a drink at Akif's place (the red Coca-cola small cafe).
Akif will also keep your car and your belongings. On top of that he will offer you a cofee !
Give him 3 000 LL (2 $) for parking fees when you live.

Atmosphere
Nobody is surfing there, except one local, Mustapha.
He lives in front of the spot. He is fed up of surfing alone !
This guy learn by himself and has no equipment, except the board I gave him when I left.
When you are in Beyrouth check the swell size at Ramneit el Baida (the beach close to the Summerland, south of Beyrouth).
Double this size and you get a figure of what you can expect at Jyé.

General
One of the best spot of the country. Nice surroundings.
In summer, if it is flat, check Bamboo bay and Jonas private beaches (but you can walk by the sea front 15 mn from Akif's).
It's south of Jyé. Anyway, don't miss the beach parties on saturday night at Bamboo (from june to september).

At least... - I was in Lebanon from 98 to 2002. First, I thought that nobody surfed before, and then I heard that there were surfers in the 70’s and 80’s. I also had some rumours about a surf contest inn the old time. Then I saw a 70's board in a Marina… I understood that what was happening was not new, Lebanon coast have been surfed before.Surf is not possible any more around the Riviera beach. Too many rocks with a big shore break. I surfed once Ramlet El Baydah but it is quite polluted. If you go back to Lebanon, you will find surf areas and surfers in the north mainly in Jbeil and Batroun and in the south around Jye (real points !).While I was in Beirut, I looked for witnesses of the pre-war surf scene and I did not find any…I feel happy to have participated to the reborn of surf in Lebanon…
