Additional Information
'The Cogwheel' is a tricky spot to catch good- but when it's working it actually can be a snappy & fun wave. It only breaks on negative tides, and really needs something below a negative -1.0 to start working properly. The smaller the swell the better, because this part of the coast picks up everything. It's best if it is glassy, or offshore (south winds are offshore here!). To surf this spot, take off right next to the point, pull into the initial barrel, and then try to come out before the waves peels in too close to the rocks. Bigger sets sometimes clear the rocks for a longer ride towards Land's End Beach.

Atmosphere
This spot is in a beautiful, isolated part of San Francisco easily accessible on the Land's End Trail with a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is rarely surfed, and does have its moments. I have surfed it very glassy and hollow with fun tubes off the rock and/or a snappy bowl section to bash a few times before kicking out. Overall though, it rarely gets good. Do not even go out to check it unless the tide is very negative and the surf is very small.
