The Leviathan of Quirky Summer Reef Breaks - In his 1651 work "Leviathan," philosopher Thomas Hobbes describes a world without government as the "state of nature." In the awe-inspiring state of nature, man is locked in a war of all against all. Life, Hobbes tells us, is nasty brutish, and short.

Were Hobbes alive today, and if he surfed, he would without question label the surf spot known as Little Point as surfing's state of nature, at least between the months of May and September.

Little Point offers Southern California surfing at its finest. While other spots in the area lie dormant during the summer months, Little Point picks up every trace of swell the Southern Hemisphere is capable of producing. Furthermore, unlike its more renown cousin to the north, Little Point is rarely mobbed to the point of asphyxiation and trapped in a never ending war of all against all. The caveat of course is the well forecasted south swells, when the folks who have surfed the spot their whole lives come out to bask in the spot's radiant glow.

The long peeling lefts. The crystal clear water. The fish swimming in and amongst the reefs. The incredibly fertile and opulent female talent lining the beach from the north to the south. It's all there for the taking, and yet, despite its nearness, so few do. So be it. The state of nature suffers none the less.

This spot is a treasure to be cherished, pure and simple. For the reasons listed above, Little Point is the Leviathan of quirky San Diego summer reef spots.
