This spot is located just N around the point from Ano Nuevo (Santa Cruz county's last spot) and is officially in San Mateo County. Look for big lighthouse- you can't miss it. The most 'alluring' waves break on the south side of the lighthouse in the cove. There are a series of funky reefs that I only call 'alluring' because they are almost always offshore. Sometimes the right-hander towards the rock stacks on the north side of the bay can be good on a big south swell and higher tide. Other reefs in the middle of the bay- while rideable- are pretty much junk surf. Once in a blue moon you'll find a decent wave here. There's a beachbreak on the north side of the lighthouse that can be fun on south swells... but this whole area is shark territory and I don't recommend it!

Additional Information
Before you surf here, write and sign you will. This is great white territory and an abalone diver was killed and eaten by a huge shark here in the late 1980's. The surf usually is never worth the risk- but once in a 'blue moon' might be! (Night surfing, anyone?) There is a Youth Hostel at the lighthouse on the point for cheap and very scenic overnight lodging! Would be a good place to write the script of Jaws 7 from! But you'll have a hard time finding any 'extras' to cast as victims! You will NEVER see anyone surfing out here- and for good reason. Yet- people surf at Gazo's Creek just a mile to the south, so it might not be as spooky as it seems. But do you want to find out?

Spot is pretty to watch- worth pulling over for if it catches your eye. Surfing here? Maybe with a large group (to increase YOUR odds of getting chowed!). Otherwise, no thanks!
