Southern Ventura - Obviously Southern Ventura is Oxnard. And yeah the river mouth only gets good after it has rained for about 2 weeks straight. Yeah there is a bar there every year, but the bars in the shores or hueneme are usually better. All that sand is drifting south filling in Hollywood, and shores. So yeah, it's only epic every few years.

"every ten years" my ass - the sand bar is there every year, fall-winter. sure, its better some years than others, but that goes for every sandy-bottomed spot in the world. every year, rivermouth gets good.

I was expecting Hawaiian style barrels - You were? Are you kook of the year? There are no Hawaiian style barrels at the rivermouth regardless of what the locals try to sell you. The place goes off, but you don't get Pipeline sytle barrels.

fuck Da hui - who cares about hawaiian style barrels if you can get three draining tubes on one wave? bothe the left and the right were doing it this winter. best waves i have ever seen in my entire life. it was like i was in indo but the water was brown and everyone was wearing wetsuits. to bad it will probably never be as good as it was this past season for a really really long time.

Check out DVD - Called WestCoast Shootout...its mostly rivermouth during this last winter. Good stuff, but not as big and gnarly as I was expecting. I was thinking Hawaiian style barrels.

- does anyone know where the spot "woodys" is. its a long barreling right somewhere in ventura or santa barbara whith a tall clump of rocks on the shore that extend about 10 feet into the water. then the rest of the beach is sandy. there is a bunch of clips of it in the video west coast shootout. and also on lostenterprises.com

Merrick Story PartlyTrue - That story about Al Merrick is only partly true. He did take a few pros to the mouth 10 years ago when it was all time. He had some team workouts there too. He had Slater, Chris Brown and a bunch of other pro donks. He got his car messed up a bunch of times. That's why he stopped going there. I think some of Slaters boards even got punked from Merricks car one day. He has David Pu'u to thank for that. This all happened when David Pu'u had that stupid ass surf report line, and told the report on the radio. He used to broadcast how good all the spots were, and NAME them. He got all type of shit for that. It totally ruined his rep around here. Nobody has forgiven him for that.

Crap - a - thon - It gets good, but it's filthier than hell. I thought I was gonna die one time I got so sick. Ironically it's best after heavy rainfall. Get ready for the following: sewage runoff (treatment plant less than 1/2 mile from the river mouth), heavy urban runoff, fertilizer from the Oxnard plains (trace amounts of DDT for sure) and just about every piece of trash from inland that can float downstream. But when it's on . . . you can get fucking piped!

Santa Clara's Crapper - I heard a rumor that back in the 90's, Al Merrick was having team workouts there. Until he noticed that the color of his sweats was fading wherever the material touched the river water. - Good stuff!
