Atmosphere
different types of people, mostly classic longboarders, not too many short boarders. lots of localism, choke sea fleas, they bite and it hurts.

long fast bayfront! - great wave! super fast and very long! has a crowd of local devotees who are out charging it whenever it (rarely) breaks with size. But because of the length of the wave if you don't feel like competing with the old pros at the peak, you can sit out wide and pick off the scraps pretty easy. Locals are super friendly if ya show aloha. Water is dirty especially after rain (plenty dat in Hilo!) so keep ya mouth shut if ya wipe-out. Also if ya get caught inside on a big day, you'll probabaly get washed most of the way back to the shore and have the super long (700meter or so) paddle back out to the line up to look foward to.... still worth it!
