maui state of mind - Ive only read like two of these posts that have it correct. Come to Hookipa, show respect, do your thing and you'll be fine. The locals here are excellent people and have good reason to be pissed...not at you, but our corporate culture period, its ruining the Islands. Respect, give and you'll get it. No stink eye.

cool spot - lived in oahu for a bit and flew to maui to get some different surf. hookipa rules, buds at the top of the hill, turtles in the water, long wave, everyone ripped, and lineup was super organized. i sat out for about 30 min before catching a wave. 3-4 hawaiian, was pretty fun

Great Spot - Surfed here for a week in early March. lots of options. Very windy but the waves were still a good shape. 6-8ft steep but not dumping. people in the water were friendly and the lifeguards nice.
