 Additional Information

Don't surf here unless you know what you are doing. This wave is soft, so is tempting as a place to learn but the set-up leads to chaos. If you don't know how to surf, wait until better conditions and go a few miles up the road to a beginners spot.

Atmosphere

it is the NEWPORT bridge (not the WALDPORT) that this break is under...save yourself the wasted petrol and time and dont go looking down in Waldport...breaks only when the swell is big or
better yet HUGE enough to push a swell upriver against the current and around the bend in the north jetty... im not sure why its posted that this spot is dangerous...its always seemed like a little toy surfspot to me... 2-3 foot mushballs...but like the man says its better than nuthin..

BIG DAY AT LEFTOVERS!! - sometime in mid to late jan 10...there are a bunch of cars parked under the north end of the newport bridge...i thought maybe an accident or something... as i pull up to the scene i begin to see racks boards wetsuited surfers maybe 15 or twenty rigs... oh yeah! leftovers must be cooking...so many cars and people... driving a little further i can see down to the break... its about 1-2 feet... rides of about 50 feet!...only 5 0r 6 people in the "lineup"...i must have missed the crowds...it was then that i realized what "surf horniness" can do to a surfer's mind!...the only game in town with the regular breaks blown out for the last two weeks...god bless leftovers!

you might note that.... - the driving instructions say: (Park on the south side of the Waldport Bridge...) anyone see something wrong with that? from what i've seen the alsea has just about nothing, a channel that goes under the center of the bridge where sometimes some real ugly waves break and where sea lions hang out at low tide. however, north of it....

- Someone might want to mention that when it IS going off, there are 20-30 people crowding one peak with longboards. All locals. 6 people taking off on each wave. Party waves galore.Biggest I've ever seen it is waist high and it's always super mush. Don't expect quality, this is a break for getting your fix in the middle of winter.
