fun waves on all swells but best on cleaning up noreasters which can result in long, peeling tubes. bad currents inside/long paddle when big. plenty of public parking in off season - can be tricky during summer.
Atmosphere
this is the workhorse spot for town surfing on the outer banks. there's usually decent waves with the potential for great waves.

crowded - 1 street is real crowded and there are a lot of locals who think that they are the only ones who can surf and are good but not amazing. so the people can be jerks and the beach is very crowded on good days and the waves are only a little better than everywhere else

local troubles - i was a local for 8 years and let me tell you to just stay away from 1st street. the locals there act like they're king shit when really most of them are possers who only surf when there is someone to impress there are plenty of breaks up and down the obx and when you run into a local who is a true surfer we're pretty welcoming well maybe not if your from virgina cause it seems like most of them have a stick up thier ass too
